This afternoon Steve and I met with Andrew's SSD teacher, current team of therapists at Parkway Early Childhood Center, Pierremont's team of therapists that may work with Andrew in the Fall, Andrew's Kindergarten teacher from CPOP and CPOP's learning consultants. It was a FULL room, but necessary to discuss Andrew's present level and goals for next year.
The meeting went fantastic and we are so happy for all of the coordination between schools to help Andrew. We are planning for Andrew to receive his services through Special School District during the school day. This option is called "dual enrollment" - he will receive therapy at Pierremont Elementary and receive his education at Christ, Prince of Peace - all during the school day.
We have to wait for schedules to be populated in the Fall from the therapists and then see if those times will work to take Andrew away from CPOP for part of the day to receive his therapy. We do not want to disrupt Andrew's day at CPOP and want him to enjoy all that Kindergarten has to offer as well as not to single him out from his peers. At the same time, we want to keep his day at typical as possible and not drag it out too long. The other option would be for Andrew to receive his services after school hours which would make for one long day.
We pray that it all works out and everyone's schedules stay flexible to help make this happen. It's a lot to coordinate and think about, but I have learned that somehow it always works out one way or another, so no worries until next school year (I have to keep telling myself that - ha!!)
